Who is RentLedger for?
Independent landlords with 1–20 units who want rent ledgers, professional PDF receipts, and tax-ready exports — not a full tenant portal or maintenance system. If you outgrew spreadsheets but don't need Buildium, RentLedger is built for you.
Does RentLedger work outside the United States?
Yes. RentLedger supports USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, EUR, and NZD. Landlords worldwide use it for rent ledgers, PDF receipts, and year-end exports formatted for their accountant — whether that means Schedule E (US), SA105 (UK), T776 (Canada), or local rental schedules elsewhere.
How is RentLedger different from Buildium, AppFolio, or Arthur Online?
Enterprise and letting-agent tools charge $50–$200+/month and include tenant portals, maintenance ticketing, and compliance modules many solo landlords never use. RentLedger focuses on rent ledgers, PDF receipts, expense tracking, and year-end exports — from $19/month for one property.
Is there a free trial?
Yes. Every new account gets 14 days of full access with no credit card required. Add properties, tenants, and download receipts before you subscribe.
How do rent receipts work?
Record or mark a rent payment as paid, then download a professional PDF receipt with your property, tenant, amount, and dates pre-filled — in your chosen currency. Email the receipt to your tenant from the payment row. Pro adds bulk ZIP download for tax year.
Can RentLedger schedule rent payments through a lease?
Yes (Solo plan and above). When you add or edit a tenant with lease start and end dates, enable Schedule rent payments through lease end to create pending rows for each month through the lease term (up to 24 months ahead). You can still edit, mark paid, or delete any row. On Starter+, monthly auto-generation continues for future months after that.
Can I export data for taxes?
Pro plan and above include year-end PDF summaries and CSV exports organized by property. Hand them to your accountant for Schedule E, SA105, T776, or equivalent rental income reporting.
What currencies are supported?
USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, EUR, NZD, and HKD. Set your portfolio currency at onboarding or in Settings.
How do I pay for a subscription?
Pay with Stripe (card) from Settings → Billing. Subscribe during or after your trial. Cancel anytime from the Stripe customer portal.
What happens when my trial ends?
You are prompted to subscribe to continue adding properties and generating new receipts. Your existing data is retained.
Can tenants log in to RentLedger?
No tenant portal — by design. You generate and email or print receipts. This keeps the product simple and affordable for landlords who do not need a full tenant app.
Is my rental data secure?
Yes. Sessions use httpOnly cookies, passwords are bcrypt-hashed, and uploaded documents are stored outside the public web root. We do not sell your data.
What are tenant pay links?
Your external payment link — PayPal.me, Venmo, Stripe Payment Link, Zelle instructions, or bank details. RentLedger does not collect rent inside the app. On Starter+, you paste your link once; Pro reminder emails can include it so tenants pay you the same way they already do.
Which plan do I need?
Solo ($19) — 1 property with everything you need day one: schedule rent, partial payments, compliance calendar, YTD income snapshot, tenant balance PDFs, lease expiry dates, receipts, and late dashboard. Starter ($29) — up to 5 properties + renewal playbook, cash flow forecast, auto-generate rent, vacancy tracker, deposit workflow, and pay links. Pro ($49) — unlimited properties + delinquency packet, automated reminders, late fees, portfolio benchmarks, and tax exports. Portfolio ($89) — LLCs, documents, accountant share. Manager ($169) — team seats and owner statements.
Can RentLedger track partial rent payments?
Yes — on every paid plan including Solo ($19). Log each Venmo or cash chunk, track the running balance, and set a promise-to-pay date.
Does RentLedger help with lease renewals?
All plans show upcoming lease end dates. Starter and above add the full renewal playbook: notice deadlines for US, UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, and Hong Kong, suggested rent increase range, and one-click renewal notice email.
Is there a landlord compliance calendar?
Yes — included on all plans. Seed an annual checklist for your market: insurance renewals, safety certificates (e.g. UK gas safety), smoke alarms, and tax prep deadlines.
Can I attach receipt photos to expenses?
Yes — on every paid plan including Solo ($19). Upload a photo of each repair invoice or receipt directly on the expense row.
Does RentLedger track tenant communications?
Yes — log calls, emails, texts, and in-person conversations on Solo and above. Pro includes the communication log in delinquency PDF exports.
Can I track vacancy and turnover?
Starter ($29) and above include a vacancy tracker: days vacant, estimated lost rent, and turnover costs when tenants move out.
How does deposit settlement work?
Starter adds a move-out deposit workflow with deductions, return deadlines by market, and settlement status. Pro adds a PDF export for tenant records.
