How to Issue an IRD-Ready Rent Receipt in 30 Seconds
Hong Kong landlords and small PM firms do not need Word templates or manual Chinese translations. RentLedger generates HKD PDF receipts with dual IRD footnotes — landlord Profits Tax retain notes plus tenant Domestic Rent Tax Deduction guidance — in under 30 seconds once your property and tenant are set up.
Step 1 — Set Hong Kong and HKD
Sign up at /start/hk (14-day free trial, no credit card) or set country to Hong Kong and currency to HKD in Settings. Receipts use en-HK date formatting and load IRD footnote text automatically.
Step 2 — Add property and tenant
Add the rental address, monthly rent, and lease dates. Schedule pending rent through lease end so upcoming due dates appear on your dashboard — you see what's due before tenants pay.
Step 3 — Record the payment
When rent arrives (FPS, bank transfer, cheque, or cash), mark the payment paid with the date received and payment method. Partial payments log separately with their own receipts.
Step 4 — Download the bilingual PDF
Click download receipt. The PDF shows landlord name, property, tenant, HKD amount, due date, paid date, and three footnote pairs in English + 繁體中文: proof of payment, landlord Profits Tax retain note, and tenant Domestic Rent Tax Deduction note. Email or WhatsApp the PDF to your tenant the same day.
Step 5 — Keep property-level records for Profits Tax
Log expenses under the same property throughout the year. At Profits Tax season (April–May filing), export property-level PDF and CSV summaries on Pro for your tax advisor. See our guide on Hong Kong Domestic Rent Tax Deduction for landlord obligations and /hong-kong-landlord-software for the full feature list.
